This month’s release is in honor of Shelley A. Marshall, a woman who lost her life in the Pentagon attack of September 11th, whose
passion was for Tea.
Afternoon Tea was an important part of many women’s lives, because it was a time to sit, share stories and build relationships. It
was a time for the elderly women to share their experiences with their daughters and granddaughters, and a time for the young
women to build lasting friendships.
Today, tea is making a comeback. Imagine a quiet afternoon, sitting with your best friend, sharing stories about your children or husband,
over your favorite flavor of tea. Schedule a time to meet where the children aren’t around to interrupt. Use the tea cups your grandmother
gave you that you thought you would never use. If you have the time, make up some homemade scones, biscotti or tea biscuits and if not,
buy some at the store, (they will never know=). Plan to sit outside if possible and enjoy the fresh air and the quiet sound of the trees
rustling in the breeze. Enjoy the time sharing stories with a friend you haven’t seen in a while, or with your grandmother who would
be delighted to see you using her cups.
It’s about living in the moment. With our busy schedules, we forget to take time to smell the roses or to reconnect with the people
in our lives. The whole point of an afternoon tea is to develop relationships without the interruptions of everyday life. In honor of
Shelley Marshall who understood the meaning of an afternoon tea, I would like to express to all moms how important it is to take
time out for yourselves. We don’t know how long we will have with the people in our lives so let’s spend it really getting to know
them, because we may just touch one mom’s life, like I am sure Shelley touched her moms!
