Dyson™ or Bust

“I’m a housewife. I’m not going to vacuum ‘til Sears makes one you can ride on.” -Roseanne

Never again will I go back to using appliances that make my job harder! I take pride in keeping a clean, orderly house. I don’t like to see cat fur on my furniture or dust bunnies running rampant at the corners of my molding; however for several months my vacuum hasn’t been keeping up its end of the bargain.

“As for accomplishments, I just did what I had to do as things came along.” –Eleanor Roosevelt

I have complained several times about how it won’t pick up the fuzzes on the bedroom rugs or dirt from my foyer floors. I have even gotten so angry at the darned thing I have shouted at the top of my lungs and as pay back, the cleaner came crashing to the floor purposely hitting my shins. Ooohh did that make me even angrier. So I resigned to do the best I could with what I had and spent twice as long pushing that poor excuse for a vacuum across the floor.

Several times while shopping at Costco, my husband has referenced buying a Dyson. My reply has always been, “It’s too expensive.”

“Some day, we will have one,” was his response.

So I labored on, using my horribly inefficient model. “Persons thankful for little things are certain to be the ones with much to be thankful for.” –Frank A. Clark

As an early anniversary gift, my husband did go out and buy a Dyson, but that’s not the best part. This machine has such an amazing power of suction and a fairly masculine design; it has attracted my husband’s attention. I actually caught him vacuuming the floor with this machine and enjoying it! If that’s all it took to get a man involved in cleaning, no amount of money is too much to spend on something that not only makes my job easier, it practically makes it non-existent!!!

What Real Love Looks Like
by Dena Dyer

(excerpt from "Grace for the Race: Meditations for Busy Moms" by Dena Dyer ~ Barbour Books)

My firstborn made my day—no, my decade—recently when we were licking ice cream cones at Sonic with his dad, Carey. (Every so often, we visit the king of drive-in milkshakes and burgers, in our pajamas. It’s a quirky family tradition.) Nonchalantly, I asked five year-old Jordan whom he would marry if he could choose right now. Carey rolled his eyes, because he doesn’t understand the motherly need for affirmation—yea, even worship—from the fruit of our labor.

Without hesitation, Jordan said, "You."

I melted faster than a soft-serve cone in the Texas heat.
