Welcome new subscribers to the "JustForMom" newsletter. A lot of people have been asking about the progress of the JFM magazine and I would first like to thank everyone for their patience. We are making progress and will have a magazine shortly. We had to make some design changes and find a new mom to design the layout. I will let you know when it is ready!
Most of you received the email about our virtual fundraiser and thank you to all who emailed their questions and to those who have participated. For those who have not received the message, I have included it below. Please keep in mind that the money raised by this or any other fundraiser for the foundation, will strictly go into the foundation for our policy directives.
Everyone is eligible to apply for grants next year.
Between November 10 and November 25, we are hosting a "virtual fundraiser" for the Foundation. The Just for Mom Foundation supports moms in their personal and professional growth by providing grants for business start-up and expansion; partnering to support worthy causes; and sponsoring mom-centered workshops. You can make a difference in the lives of moms just by shopping on this website! Simply type in the Just For Mom foundation in the organization box (no name needed) and click to sign in. Be sure to choose direct shipping and together we can help change the lives of mothers all over the world.
15% of the total sales will be donated to the Foundation.
Just by doing your holiday shopping you can help support a mom trying to make life better for herself and her children. Join us at our "party" - fancy shoes optional!
P.S. This is not me, this is Tara DeRosa, another mom who works with JustForMom!
Please forward this to anyone who may be interested!
The next issue of the newsletter will come out on December 8th. We will be out of town between now and after Thanksgiving for a funeral and family gatherings.
Everyone have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving Day Reminder
"Count your blessings not your crosses,
count your gains, not your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes,
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your health, not your wealth."
-Old Proverb
Holidays can be a very stressful time of year for a lot of people: what gifts to buy for your in-laws; the crowds at the super market; traffic at Toys R Us; lines, lines, and more lines. Find the time to step away for a few moments and remember "the only way to live is to accept each minute as an unrepeatable miracle, which is exactly what it is: a miracle and unrepeatable." -Storm Jameson.
Be grateful for the moment that is here to share with your family and friends. When you sit down to that amazing Thanksgiving feast, give a thought to the people who will not have turkey for dinner or pie for dessert. When you cuddle by the fire and watch "A Christmas Story" (and we all do :o), remember that TV is a luxury that we enjoy and often take for granted.
Enjoy this Holiday season with an unadulterated youthful glow and thank God for the blessings you have in your life. It doesn't hurt to be reminded from time to time!
From our family to yours, have a blessed and plentiful Thanksgiving feast!

UCLA Study On Friendship Among Women - An alternative to fight or flight
©2002 Gale Berkowitz
This UCLA study is a fascinating look at the strength women derived from relationships with other women. Since stress research has heretofore concentrated primarily on males, this new work will be of great interest to women of all ages.
A landmark UCLA study suggests friendships between women are special. They shape who we are and who we are yet to be. They soothe our tumultuous inner world, fill the emotional gaps in our marriage, and help us remember who we really are. By the way, they may do even more.
Scientists now suspect that hanging out with our friends can actually counteract the kind of stomach-quivering stress most of us experience on a daily basis.
A landmark UCLA study suggests that women respond to stress with a cascade of brain chemicals that cause us to make and maintain friendships with other women. It's a stunning find that has turned five decades of stress research---most of it on men---upside down. Until this study was published, scientists generally believed that when people experience stress, they trigger a hormonal cascade that revs the body to either stand and fight or flee as fast as possible, explains Laura Cousin Klein, Ph.D., now an Assistant Professor of Biobehavioral Health at Penn State University, and one of the study's authors....

How to Teach Your Child about Gratitude
by Christine Louise Hohlbaum
Giving thanks is not only reserved for Thanksgiving, but the holiday serves as a gentle reminder of the importance and simplicity of gratitude. How can we teach our children about thankfulness without beating them over the head with it? When thinking about how to teach my children about gratitude, I had to reflect on my grandmother’s compulsion to send thank-you cards. Through her guidance (and yes, often prompting!), I learned to send thank-you cards at a very early age.

Inspired Parenting Tip
by Dr. Caron Goode
Do breathing exercises for fun and relaxation.
When stressed, confused, or tired, use deep breathing exercises. To increase physical vitality, inhale through the mouth and expand the abdomen. Exhale fully, releasing all air from the abdomen and lungs. Breathing three to ten times is enough to re-energize the body. Put on some upbeat, bouncy music to add to the fun.
